Our Fave Products for Your Best Postpartum Recovery

postpartum recovery | sitz bath | herbal bath

If you’ve spent any time on social media as an expectant parent you know how easy it is to get pulled in by the algorithms. The baby and postpartum industry garnered close to $25 billion in 2021! If you’d like some help sifting through the marketing gimmicks and landing on products that are really and truly helpful during the postpartum recovery time, here are our top favorite products:

Sitz baths

If you have a vaginal birth, one of the best things you can do for your birth recovery is to take frequent baths in the early weeks. These baths should not be too hot and need not be too deep — just a few inches of water with unscented Epsom salts soaking your bottom for about 15 minutes, as many as four times daily — will help reduce inflammation and speed up overall healing. If you are not a bath person, this handy drugstore sitz bath that rests inside your toilet might be right for you!

If you have a vaginal birth and are supported by our doulas, we’ll share a complimentary herbal bath blend with you at your first visit. This unique blend of herbs — including comfrey, plantain, calendula, and more — are well-known for their healing properties (and they smell wonderful).

Silverette nursing cups

Our lactation specialists would agree that the best way to address nipple pain during breastfeeding is to improve your baby’s latch. But as you and your baby work toward that, these small Silverette nursing cups can be a game changer. Pure silver is well-known for its anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. Placing these over your nipples between feedings can help to speed up tissue healing in the early days at home.

Maternity underwear

As we frequently tell our clients, the early postpartum period is the time for the most comfortable underwear. Grab any extra postpartum undies from your hospital room before discharge, or stock up with these ones from Frida Mom. They are oh-so-comfy during your postpartum recovery, and they hold large pads well during your early days of heavier bleeding.

Scar care oil

If you have welcomed or will welcome your baby by surgical birth, we encourage you to care for your incision well. Your provider will likely recommend that you avoid baths that cover your incision until your scar has fully healed. Once healed, a high quality c-section massage oil can assist with continued healing.

If you have a C-section birth and are supported by our team postpartum, we’ll share a locally made blend of scar care oil with you at our first visit.

MotherLove Nipple Cream

As we’ve mentioned, the best way to improve nipple pain when breastfeeding is to improve your baby’s latch, but as you work toward that goal we do love this nipple cream from MotherLove. It is deeply healing, and can be used not only for your nipples but for moisturizing other parts of your body as well! (Note: we recommend using any nipple cream after you’ve washed your hands to avoid the risk of bacterial introduction, so keeping it in your bathroom can be ideal.) Use code BBMN15 for 15% off your order!
