About Hallie: I am a wife and mother of four lovely and energetic small children, and the owner and manager of Better Beginnings. Through experience, I have come to realize the importance of support from others when one begins raising a child, so I became a certified postpartum doula through Doulas of North America (DONA), including certification in adult, child, and infant CPR. I also am a Certified Lactation Counselor through The Healthy Children Project, which means I have additional training and experience helping families who are thinking about breastfeeding or who have problems or questions about breastfeeding during their course of lactation. In my “previous life” I taught high school English and coached girls’ tennis as well as various other student activities. My husband continues to work in education, as the president of a Minneapolis elementary school. We live in St. Paul, and I enjoy reading, writing, travel, camping, running, music, and of course, being with my family. I’m so excited to get to know you and determine together how we can best serve your family!
About Karen S: A native Minnesotan, my own mom birthed four big babies and was a proud breastfeeder. She was my first inspiration in the birth world! Since training as a doula in 2012, I have attended natural and medicated births, premature deliveries, C-section births, water births, and HypnoBirths. After supporting many of my birth clients in their early postpartum journeys, I’ve come to realize what a necessary role the postpartum doula plays in offering support and education to new and growing families. In addition to serving as a postpartum doula I am also a Certified Lactation Educator Counselor and love finding ways to help moms establish good breastfeeding relationships with their little ones. I spent eight years working in the non-profit sector and teaching high school science in our nation’s capital before returning to Minnesota in 2012 to be closer to family. When I am not serving moms and their families, it gives me joy to participate in my church community, promote local foods and farming, play the mandolin, and enjoy the diversity of Minnesota’s seasons.
About Jayme Jo: I am so happy to be part of the Better Beginnings daytime doula team. I am so passionate about supporting families, especially mothers, in the postpartum and beyond. My background is full and interdisciplinary, having worked in environmental conservation, special education, art, photography, commercial baking, and more, I believe that all of this experience adds value in meeting the needs of a wide variety of families. I am a DONA-certified postpartum doula and a Certified Lactation Counselor through the Healthy Children Project. I am also in the process of pursuing IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Counselor) certification as I am very enthusiastic about making sure that every mother who wants to breastfeed has all of the information and support she needs to be successful. In my free time I love to bake bread, spend time outside, practice yoga, work on creative projects, and have fun with my husband and daughter. I am so looking forward to meeting you and being a part of your journey!
About Hannah: I am thrilled to be on the daytime doula team here with Better Beginnings! I am passionate about creating community with the folks around me, and am inspired to find more ways I can better our world. I have always been drawn to help people in a tangible way, and after our firstborn came earthside, I found an area of hospitality that sent my heart sailing. What a huge life transition parenthood is! We could all use more support during this fourth trimester (or, always) and I’m inspired to support your family however you need it most. I am a DONA-trained postpartum doula and I’m currently working towards my lactation certification. I’m the wife of my best friend, and together we have two adventurous brown-eyed boys that keep us on our toes and are constantly melting our hearts. You can often find me outside with them or rummaging through the farmer’s markets to scout out some tasty vegetables that the proud farmers have on display (I love all things nutrition!). Our family lives in community with our dear friends in the NE metro area.

About Karen K: I love providing high quality nighttime support to Better Beginnings clients. I am a wife and mother of 5 children, and I also have 2 grandchildren. After being a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom for 18 years, I decided to become a doula. I am a certified postpartum doula, and I also have certifications as a birth doula, and lactation counselor. I also love to research and study about topics relating to raising healthy babies and children. I have been caring for new mothers and families for the past 20+ years and I love helping women through pregnancy, childbirth and those weeks and months that follow. I have a passion for “natural” childcare, nutrition and organic, healthy living. I have years of experience with gluten-free, allergy-free cooking and I love to cook and experiment with new recipes. I live in West St. Paul.
About Sara J: I am excited to be part of the night team at Better Beginnings! I have a background in early childhood education and have spent the last 14 years helping families raise their multiples (twins and triplets). This past summer I became certified as a newborn care specialist and truly enjoy helping families with their new bundles of joy. Working so closely with new mothers and their newborns peaked my interest in becoming a postpartum doula. I am a CAPPA-trained postpartum doula and am excited to help new moms and families transition after birth. In my free time, I love to travel, read, scrapbook and spend time with my husband and daughter.
About Sara H: I am loving being part of a team with the rest of the crew to offer clients a high level of care for their overnight support! I come from a couple generations of women involved in various forms of birth work and attended my first birth over 18 years ago! When I became a birth doula, I often found myself thinking about how much support both new and experienced moms, and their families, really needed. I quickly added Postpartum Doula and Lactation Educator Counselor certifications to better serve my clients and my community. I’ve most recently added Childbirth Educator to my repertoire, as well. I enjoy spending my time researching anything and everything related to pregnancy, birth, and parenting. When I’m not working with clients, I can be found homeschooling my 3 children, gardening, or hiking! Two of my children have Celiac Disease and over the last 6 years, I have enjoyed learning a lot about allergy friendly cooking, how to simplify it, and have it taste good!
About Amanda: I am proud to be part of the night team here at Better Beginnings! I am focused on helping moms and families transition after birth and I am centered on providing support in the ways that best help their needs, life, and home environments. After I provided postpartum support for several families, I wanted to grow in my education around doula work so I completed both birth and postpartum doula trainings through DONA. With a Masters in Education, it is important to me to continue researching and learning about diverse ways to create healthy environments for babies and children that support a spectrum of needs and families. I have worked in diverse communities, including queer families and recovery families. I believe it takes a community of support to navigate change; and I want to be part of that community for a family in the 4th trimester (or beyond!). I love to cycle, read, cook, garden, and discover ways through organization to create more playtime with my daughter.
